Who We Are

UPAWUZ is a legally registered, not-for-profit workers’ organization with full corporate status, operating across all provinces of Zambia. We are governed by a democratic constitution and led by elected officials who are committed to improving the welfare of all members.

Our Mission

To unite all workers in government, grant-aided institutions, and non-governmental organizations, while promoting dignity, effective service delivery, and the protection of workers’ rights in line with our constitution.

To become the most representative and trusted worker’s organization in Zambia—where every member counts.

  1. Overall head of the Union.

  2. Presides over all major meetings (Quadrennial Conference, National Council, National Executive Board).

  3. Chief spokesperson of the Union.

  4. Ensures the Union’s constitution is upheld.

  5. Leads delegations in employer negotiations.

  1. Assists the President and acts in their absence.

  2. Chairs the Staff Affairs Committee.

  3. Supports various Union committees and undertakes duties assigned by the National Executive Board.

General Secretary

  1. Chief administrator of the Union.

  2. Responsible for all Union documents, records, and correspondence.

  3. Oversees day-to-day operations and staff at the head office.

  4. Secretary to all top-level meetings (Conference, Council, Executive Board).

  5. Co-spokesperson alongside the President.
